Recently

Yep It has been a long old while since I last posted here though this is quite telling of the last couple of months of my life! So Since my last post I arrived back in rainy England, went to Newday - a national youth event run by Newfrontiers, visited the Netherlands, applied to and began my degree at Redcliffe college studying Applied theology in cross cultural contexts.

It has been a forest of new experiences, sharp learning curves, ups, downs and lots of busyness throughout, until now that is. I am now beginning to settle into my new home. It is quite telling that I am not settled in a place if I haven't found the time to get my camera out. Well as a point of settling in I went for a walk this week and the camera came with - and now you can join for the highlights of the journey.

Birthday Celebrations

Last week I got freshers flu - hence the lack of activity in this spot but I am now (only just!) pulling out the other side though I still have to blow my nose pretty regularly. Moving smoothly onward, last weekend saw two birthdays and a leaving party all rolled into a very short space of time.

For the first birthday a wild river swim was organised at this point you might be thinking - 'seriously? swimming in a river isn't that just unpleasantly cold' and you would be absolutely correct, being ill didn't help so I only ventured to waist height and even that was painful the rest of the day consisted of an elongated picnic, Irish snap and ninjas. there weren't loads of pictures taken - I was too busy enjoying myself but it was quite the scenic location.

This birthday also happened to be the leaving party, as for the second birthday my illness hit a peak so I wasn't even going to bother bringing the camera but if you're that interested she blogged about it herself over here.  

Early Autumn

Autumn has made an unseasonally early appearance this year and I must admit I am not at all adverse to this. Yes the weather will get colder but this is England, it's always cold and the days are getting shorter but this does mean that you get to see both sunrise and sunset - or failing that then at least sunset at a reasonable hour meaning capturing it is far less of  a mission.

 Take for example this evening... our garden is home to a sycamore tree which is deep red/orange this time of year mix that in with a golden setting sun and you have yourself a thing of beauty. So obviously I attempted to capture it as best I could in the 'golden hour' that is sunset.

Now you may or may not have noticed but I prefer to take pictures of the smaller details, the tiny intricacies of creation that are so often skipped over, trodden on and generally ignored. Partially because I find them easier to capture than big things  (generally you can hold them in your hand and therefore manipulate composition to your hearts content) and partially because I like the idea of showing something that is so easily overlooked, yet has had so much attention and detail put into it, like the veins on leaves.

and also the true colour of an autumnal leaf - if these weren't back light by the sun they would be quite boring to look at. Oh and as is becoming tradition, my favourite last:

1) I have taken to cropping some landscape images to a panoramic 8X2 or 8X4 ratio because I find it more appealing to the eye (what do you think of it?)

Tea

Hello internet, it's been a long old while. It got busy and I got photo-ed out but I'm baaaaack! :D so I think I'll start with a Cuppa.

Recently I tried to calculate the volume of tea that I drink on an average working day because doing it by the cup is not that accurate given that I tend to use larger than average cups. On a good day I estimate that I get through about 8-10 of the above cups which works out at 2.8 -3.5 Litres of tea!

 Of course this is 'good' day rather than an average which would be about 1.5L Suffice it to say that I drink a lot of tea and yes I am drinking one as I type this out.

In other news Google+ has gone public, if you don't know what that is then you should, if you don't like what that is then you will. I dislike Facebook but not enough to stop using it, it was a necessary evil until now because Google have entered the game bringing with them the + button and the most visited website in the history of the internet. So if you haven't joined Google+ then do so, it combines Twitter, Facebook and Google and is as simple as you would expect a Google product to be.

One of the main reasons I dislike Facebook is the constant change, not because of the change itself but because the change is not intuitive, you have to re-teach yourself how to use it every time they redesign the homepage which feels like every week. It took me under 5 minutes to get to grips with Google+ it has an Apple-esque feel to it by which I mean it looks good and is easy to use, anyway back to the tea ...

Blue Skies, Kites and Sunshine

O.k it's been a long old while since the last post - been super busy photography wise with the exhibition preparation which is well under way with the prints ordered there are now not too many things left to do.

Anyway last week (?) I took a little trip to the downs and because Barney has not been photographed a little old while I bought my camera along.

Our guttering is a frequent and popular haunt for the birds of the neighbourhood, I don't think it has a steep enough gradient resulting in a small bird sized pool of water collecting in the corner. Unfortunately I wasn't quick enough to catch the fight that ensued between the two birds (you can just about see the second still perched in the gutter) over the favourite spot.
